Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Psychology and Mentality of Ivar the Boneless from the Series Vikings.
Ivar suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the difficult life of living with a disability.
Hi, Montage Writes here and today let's discuss the Psychology and mentality of Ivar the Boneless
.
Ivar is a very malicious and cunning character and the very least he suffers definitely from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. He has Delusions of grandeur and has a very psychotic rage. Ivar is the type to act first then think later especially when insulted or angry.
What Makes me say that Ivar the Boneless suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder???
1. Ivan Believes he is a god. He believes that he is the true successor of Ragnar his father and sometimes I believe that he thinks he is even better than Ragnar and he believes he is a god especially a descendant from Odin Ivar is definitely not a god but he has these delusions of grandeur which is the basically the number one characteristic which mental professionals check when it comes to Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
2. Ivar was not able to have children. He has a wife who was called Freydis and his wife cheated on him with a slave and she got pregnant and she told Ivar that this is his baby so Ivar knowing that he could not have a kid and now him having a kid make him believe even morere that he is a god. When his Son Baldur was born with a deformity which is knkwn as the Cleft Palate Ivar left the baby out in the Wilderness for h to be killed and eaten by wild animals funny enough this also happened to Ivar because his father Ragnar left Ivar to die when he saw that Ivar had been born with disability. Also when Ivar realized that the child is not his, he also killed his wife in a completely insane level of rage.
3. His mother Aslaug treated him in a very special way and this was his foundation of his Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Narcism can be detected and be seen when it comes to a child. When we use Social Learning Theory, we see that children embody the characteristics which has been shown to them by their parents so when they emphasize how special a child is they really believe it and take in the fact that they are grand and better than other people.
His mother fuelled this by making him seem that he is high above everyone else. This was actually the foundation of him having Narcissism.
4. Narcissists are very sensitive when it comes to criticism and they can do everything to protect their egos and image. When Ivar's brother Sigurd insulted him, he literally threw an axe on sight and killed his brother just because he insulted him but he definitely felt regret later.
5. Narcissists are Impulsive and Impatient. They are people who do things on the spot with whatever, however their mind has told them and this is how Sigurd was killed because Ivar couldn't take an insult and killed him instantly
.
Ivan was born with cartilage intead of bones and they would break when he was in activity therefore he couldn't walk. People had to carry him everywhere he went. People insulting him when he himself came from a family of warriors definitely took a jab on his self esteem and made him become rude and ruthless.
Ivar also suffers from brittle bone disease which is characterized with conductive hearing loss, broken bones and intense blue eyes.
What Actually is Narcissistic Personality Disorder???
This Disorderis when a person has an inflated sense of grandeur, someone views themselves as a god and better than anybody else. Ivar definitely is the perfect description of people who are narcissists.
What are some characteristics of Narcissistic Personality Disorder???
1. They expect special treatment and be favoured wherever they go.
2. They are pre occupied with fantasies of power, intelligence of brillianceand success.
3. They cannot relate and associate themselves with people who they think are below them and theu only associate with people they feel are powerful and they are as important as them.
4. They expect somebody to really view their achievement as so big and so awesome even though they have not achieved that, they may have lied but expect to be treatedas important people because of what they have done.
5. They take advantage of other people, do not recognize other people, they are envious of other people and even believe other people are envious of them even though people have not shown them anysigns of jealousy.
What are the Causes of Narcissistic Personality Disorder???
Environment. If a parent gives his/her child too much admiration, it makes them feel too important and definitely can internalizethis.
Genetics. It being passed down.
Neurobiology which is the connection between your brsin and the activities you do.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder is very hectic when it comes to a person who already has a disability, low self-esteem and at the same time comes from an area of people who are high achievers, and successful. This is the case when it comes to Ivar's father Ragna. Whhen it comes to Ivar, he is expected to be good but instead he thinks he is a god and believes the delusions in his mind of grandeur making himself feel like he is on top of every single person and I believe that this was definitely one of his biggest downfall when it comes to the series.
